v1.4 september 20 06 data sheet AG2130 low cost pstn interface 1.0 pin description 1.1 sil pin-out pin # name description 1 ring (b) ring. connects to the subscriber line ring. 2 tip (a) tip. connects to the subscriber line tip. 3 cathode cathode. for power cross protection connect to protection device cathode. 4 anode anode. for power cross protection connect to protection device anode. 5 gate gate. for power cross protection c onnect to protection device gate. 6 dmb dc mask b. a resistor is connected between this pin and dma to adjust the d.c. characteri stics of the termination. 7 dma dc mask a. a resistor is connected between this pin and dmb to adjust the d.c. characteri stics of the termination. 8 nc no connect. this pin is not used and can be left open circuit. 9 v in audio in. this is the analog input signal from the codec (which is output on tip and ring). connec ted via a 100nf capacitor. 10 v ou t audio out. this is the analog output signal (from tip and ring) to the codec. connected via a 100nf capacitor. 11 lsc loop s w itch control. applying a logic 1 closes the integral loop switch. 12 gnd analog ground. normally connected to system ground. 13 v cc positive suppl y . must be connected to +5v or +3.3v. 14 nc no connect. this pin is not used and can be left open circuit. 15 z b balance n e tw ork. the network balance matching components are connected between this pin, v in and gnd. 16 z t2 2 wire ma tching netw ork 2. the 2 wire impedance matching network is connected between this pin and z t1 . the compensation impedance zc is connected between this pin and z b . 17 z t1 2 wire ma tching netw ork 1. the 2 wire impedance matching network is connected between this pin and z t2 . 18 rs ringing signal. a logic 0 indic a tes the presence of ringing vo ltage on the telephone line. toggles at ringing freque ncy. 19 v ref reference voltage output. used with v tr to detect parallel phone. v ref is approx i mately +v cc /2. connect 100f to gnd from this pin. 20 v tr tip/ring voltage. indicates the voltage bet ween tip/ring. divided by 220 and relative to vref. ? silver tele com 20 06 3
v1.4 september 20 06 data sheet AG2130 low cost pstn interface 2.0 line interfacing the ag2 130 line inte rfa c e p r ovid es a flexible and robu st interfa c e to the tel epho ne line. it has bee n desi gne d to meet regul atory stand ard s whilst providing a spa c e a nd power efficie n t solution. 2.1 d.c. termination. any equipm ent termin ating a tele ph one lin e mu st pre s ent the corre c t d.c. resi stan ce to the line. th is ensure s that the co rrect loo p c u rrent flows for detec tion of the off-ho ok con d ition. it avoids e x cessive p o w er dissipatio n in the subscrib er line inte rface (slic) a nd the subscri b er?s equip m e n t and minim i se s the si ze of power supply neede d to dri v e the slic. the ag21 3 0 has be e n desig ned to meet the requi rem ents of many net work o p e r ato r s. thi s i s do ne by making t he d.c. cha r acteri stic adj u stabl e. this is controlled by con n e c ting th e dm pin s o n the line sid e of the circuit. table 1 sho w s how the s e a r e con n e c ted. table 1 set up of the dm pins m a r k e t d m a d m b north ame r i c a (eia 464, re sistive) con n e c t toge ther thro ugh 390k re si stor europ e (c tr 21) con n e c t toge ther thro ugh 390k re si stor far ea st con n e c t toge ther thro ugh 390k re sisto r 2.2 signalling and loop status. the ag21 30 provide s fa cil i ties to monit o r an d co ntrol the telephon e line. this allows the de vice to be used with a vari ety of loop signall i ng sch e me s and mini mise s the num ber of externa l com pon ent s ne ede d t o impleme n t a compl e te line interface. in ord e r to i m pleme n t ground start ap plicatio ns ple a se conta c t silver teleco m or o u r local re pre s entative. 2.2.1 the on-board loop s w itch the ag 213 0 impleme n ts t he lo op sta r t protocol wh en initiating and answeri ng a call. this means that a swit ch mu st be cl osed to allow lo op curre n t to flow, sign alling to the slic that the terminating equipm e n t has go ne ?of f -hoo k?. thi s h a s be en done hi stori c ally by a relay. the ag213 0 use s an i n tegral o p tically isolate d swit ch to d o thi s , eliminating th e ne ed fo r a n external relay , so spa c e a n d co st is save d for the user. the o n -b oard loop s w itch is c ontrolled by the lsc pi n. a logic 1 appl ied to the pin clo s e s the loo p swit ch. thi s is d one whe n the te rmin ating e quipm ent wi sh es to begin a call or in re spo n se to th e rece ption of t he ringin g si gnal . the lsc pin can be controlle d by the output d r ive pins of a co d e c or f r om a micro controll er device. 2.2.2 ringing detection and sensitivit y . the te rmin al equipm ent m u st b e ca pab le of dete c tin g and re sp ondi ng to an in co ming call in t he sam e way as a telepho ne set. the termination circuitry m u st, therefo r e, det ect the prese n ce of the rin g ing si gnal. the ag213 0 provide s an output, rs, whi c h indi cat e s the pre s e n ce of ringing by switching fro m a logic 1 t o logic 0. th e rs outp u t will toggle at the ringi n g freque ncy. a cap a cito r to grou nd can a l so b e add ed if ringin g cade nce i s ne ed ed rath er th an the rin g i ng freque ncy. the se nsitivity to ringing is set intern ally to 22v rm s whe n v cc is +5v. 3.0 the 2-4 wire (hy b rid) conversion. the ag21 30 transmit s a nd re ceive s balan ce d 2-wire analo g si gnal s at the ti p a nd ri ng con n e ction s . th e s e are conve r te d to a g r ou n d refe ren c e d output at v ou t and from a g r ound referen c ed sign al at v in . v ou t and v in are n o rm all y conn ecte d to a co de c (via d.c. blo cki ng cap a cito rs) fo r co nversio n to and fro m a pulse code modulate d (p cm) stre am. 3.1 transmit and receive gain. the off-h o o k gain in b o th the tran smit and re ce ive dire ction s is set at typically 0db. any gain adju s tment s can be ma d e usi ng the cod e c fu nctio nality. this is either by h a rdwa re o r sof t ware dep en ding u pon th e cod e c u s e d . ? silver tele com 20 06 4
